Dislocation Based Fracture Mechanics
Author: Johannes Weertman Editor: World Scientific ISBN: 9789810226206 Size: 14,61 MB Format: PDF Read: 227
Download The dislocation is the basic building block of the crack in an elastic-plastic solid. Fracture mechanics is developed in this text from its dislocation foundation. It is the only text to do so. It is written for the graduate student and the new investigator entering the fracture field as well as the experienced scientist who has not used the dislocation approach. The dislocation mechanics needed to find the dislocation density fields of crack tip plastic zones is developed in detail. All known dislocation based solutions are given for the three types of cracks in elastic-plastic solids are given.
Download Advanced Fracture Mechanics and Structural Integrity is organized to cover quantitative descriptions of crack growth and fracture phenomena. The mechanics of fracture are explained, emphasizing elastic-plastic and time-dependent fracture mechanics. Applications are presented, using examples from power generation, aerospace, marine, and chemical industries, with focus on predicting the remaining life of structural components and advanced testing metods for structural materials. Numerous examples and end-of-chapter problems are provided, along with references to encourage further study. The book is written for use in an advanced graduate course on fracture mechanics or structural integrity.
Functionalized Engineering Materials And Their Applications
Download Scientists and researchers are looking for new smart materials to replace old or conventional materials for better performance and for new applications. The use of polymeric materials and nanomaterials is increasing due to their wide-spectrum tunability and many properties. It is now easier to formulate materials for special purposes using these materials than using conventional materials and methods. Many commercial products made from polymeric materials and nanomaterials are now in use and on the market. This book presents a diverse selection of cutting-edge research on the development of polymeric materials and nanomaterials for new and different applications. These include electrical applications, biomedical applications, sensing applications, coating applications, and others. A few chapters dedicated to materials for construction applications are also included. Discussions include the properties, behavior, preparation, processing, and characterization of various polymeric materials, nanomaterials, and their composites. Some of the chapter authors present theoretical studies of these systems, which can help readers to develop a better understanding in this area.

Download A State-of-the-Art Guide to the Mechanics of Asphalt Concrete Mechanics of Asphalt systematically covers both the fundamentals and most recent developments in applying rational mechanics, microstructure characterization methods, and numerical tools to understand the behavior of asphalt concrete (AC). The book describes the essential mathematics, mechanics, and numerical techniques required for comprehending advanced modeling and simulation of asphalt materials and asphalt pavements. Filled with detailed illustrations, this authoritative volume provides rational mechanisms to guide the development of best practices in mix design, construction methods, and performance evaluation of asphalt concrete. Mechanics of Asphalt covers: Fundamentals for mathematics and continuum mechanics Mechanical properties of constituents, including binder, aggregates, mastics, and mixtures Microstructure characterization Experimental methods to characterize the heterogeneous strain field Mixture theory and micromechanics applications Fundamentals of phenomenological models Multiscale modeling and moisture damage Models for asphalt concrete, including viscoplasticity, viscoplasticity with damage, disturbed state mechanics model, and fatigue failure criteria Finite element method, boundary element method, and discrete element method Digital specimen and digital test-integration of microstructure and simulation Simulation of asphalt compaction Characterization and modeling of anisotropic properties of asphalt concrete
Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics For Engineers
Author: L. P. Pook Editor: Computational Mechanics ISBN: 9781853127038 Size: 17,49 MB Format: PDF, Kindle Read: 331

Crack Paths
Author: L. P. Pook Editor: Wit Pr/Computational Mechanics ISBN: 9781853129278 Size: 17,49 MB Format: PDF Read: 810
Download Many engineering structures and components contain cracks or crack-like flaws and it is widely recognized that crack growth must be considered both in the design and analysis of failures. The complete solution of a crack growth problem therefore includes determination of the crack path. At present the factors controlling the path taken by a propagating crack are not completely understood. In general crack paths are difficult to predict, while in practice their development in structures is often determined by large-scale structural tests. In introductory texts on fracture mechanics it is usually assumed that the crack path is known, either from theoretical considerations, or from the results of laboratory tests.A great amount of published information on crack paths exists, but this is scattered and often incomplete. This book provides an accessible state-of-the-art survey, with major themes presented in as unified a manner as possible.
